Iliana and I, Gypsie found each other on a Keto support group. We were attracted to each other because we are close to the same age and have similar views on health and well being.
Our mission is to share information, research and personal experience with you in hopes that you can get inspired and decide that maybe some dietary changes might be in order. Any, changes are up to you.
We are sharing experience and information on low carb/high fat, Keto, and ZC ( Carnivore ).
We have done all three and have gradually evolved to where we are now more: ZC.
Iliana was a hard core low fat in the 80’s thru 2014. You could have called me the Mother Teresa of low fat.
I was mostly vegetarian during some of that time. Beef was evil in my eyes at that time.
I grew heavier and heavier.
In 2014, I started looking at another way. Fat was not the problem sugar and starch ( carbs) were the problem. Saturated fats were not the cause of all the illnesses, actually corn oil and other refined oils are.
I went from a size 4 petite to a size 14 in 4 years doing low fat diets. I was even a consultant for Jenny Craig during the period. Yes, I lost the weight, but no one can maintain at 1200 calories a day on low fat and a bunch of “free” veggies! I lived thinking when my next meal was and couldn’t leave home without a snack in my purse. My weight was back within a few months of trying this diet plus it always brought some friends with it, usually 5-10 pounds beyond what I had lost.
That has totally changed.
As I have shared, my blood pressure was out of control. I had a heart procedure in 2016 as they tried to find an explanation for the problem. I was on 3 blood pressure pills and a diuretic, yet, my blood pressure was on a regular basis 170 or above over 107 to 123. I was eating low salt, low fat, high fiber.
I had serious IBS. And, the fibromyalgia was killing me.
I am now off all of the meds and my blood pressure was 119/85 this morning.
Just sharing with you that there are things that we can do to heal and it might be as simple as giving up bread, pop and cut down on the carbs to start. It could be as simple as just giving yourself 30 days. One day at a time. On your own time and your own plan.
We are here to help.
If you have any questions about any of the three ways of eating please ask questions.
We can have open discussions and help along the way.
We recommend that you get the book Keto by Craig Emmerich.
You will have your answers and have your own resource on hand.
I, Gypsie have a similar story. As I entered my 60’s my health began to decline and my weight was going up no matter how hard I tried to cut calories. I had a lot of joint pain and generalized nerve pain that I could not find a reason for. I also was diagnosed with kidney stones and a hole in my gut, ouch. I was receiving more and more cortisone injections for the pain. My family doctor said I had high inflammation levels and my triglycerides, fasting blood sugar and blood pressure were increasing each year. I’m a retired RN ; I make a terrible patient. I decided I was not going the route of doctor visits as my form of entertainment in my later years. I stumbled upon the paleo way of eating which helped me a bit but I began to gain more weight because of the high starches and sugar. I continued reading and eventually found the KETO lifestyle. Low carb, high fat. I lost 30 pounds very quickly but then hit a stall. I continued reading and experimenting with my way of eating. I learned that as we age we need more protein. I began lowering my carbohydrate intake and raising my protein. As I did I discovered that I felt so much better eating almost all animal protein. I still eat an occasional vegetable or low carb treat but the bulk of my diet is animal protein mostly beef. My muscle mass and strength have increased. I feel good. I’m hoping to continue this lifestyle forever. I hike, rebound, practice yoga and lift a few weights several days a week. I’m not dedicated and have no set routine.
Iliana and I are not physicians or nutritionist. We don’t presume to act in that capacity. We read and share what we have learned and what works for us. You can take it or leave it. Hopefully you will at least try to cut your sugar intake which includes all grains and starches and try to eat a Whole Foods based diet as unaltered by man or machine as possible; a diet rich in animal protein and low carb vegetables.
We share our recipes and those of other low carb bloggers. We also share whatever new science or research we find and trust.
Iliana is also certified in essential oils and can help you in that area. She has helped me a lot. She will be sharing her knowledge here.
